Sketches

In my first two sketches I was primarily focused on playing with the rule of thirds while keeping the project horizontal. In sketch #1, I wanted to have the trash and iceberg placed on the sides and slanted in the frame to guide the eyes of the observer to the polar bear in the middle of the project. This is why the polar bear is much larger as well. In sketch #2, I played with having everything centered and keeping the larger focus on advertising with destruction surrounding it.

Similar to my first two sketches, I played around with the rule of thirds but this time with the project being vertical. My idea was similar for both sketch #1 and sketch #3, keeping a “V” shape to force focus. However, for sketch #3, I chose to have the iceberg be the focus of the project. In sketch #4 I followed a similar suit to sketch #2 with its layout, however I removed the photo of the polar bear to create a noticeable contrast of an open sky versus the destruction below.

In sketch #5 I wanted to think of something entirely different than the previous sketches. I thought that bringing the cityscape out of water would be an interesting addition, as well as adding someone “escaping” the flooded city. Overall, I liked this sketch, however, it would not have been technically correct as far as visuals for allowing both above water action (that is not on the horizon) and the clear underwater action. There would have had to have been a completely different perspective for this sketch to have become my final project.
