Progress

At the start of this project, I wanted to have two bases to the composition. A background of an iceberg, and a foreground of garbage. To isolate the garbage from it’s surroundings in it’s original photo, I used the polygonal lasso tool.

Using the polygonal lasso with a 3 px feather, I added a billboard and a city skyline to add fullness to the composition, but the colors were still off, and I didn’t feel that the new additions (along with the garbage) had a look of being under water.

I added a great shot of a polar bear by photographer
Paul Souders, but I struggled to find it’s placement. I also another layer with low opacity to give the underwater components a fogginess to them, as well as better coloring.

I decided to have the polar bear be the center focus for this composition. To do this, I had to rebuild the the water line. I used a combination of content aware and the healing brush tool to form a new water line.

I added the ocean floor, but struggled with forming a natural blend with the garbage behind it.
